The main classifications of antonyms by linguistic, structural, thematic and semantic features, as well as by the degree of contrast of meanings, are considered. Special attention is paid to the differentiation of lexical and word-formation antonymy and the analysis of the reasons for their confusion in linguistic research. The phenomenon of interparticle antonymy is highlighted, its role in the language system and artistic speech, including in the formation of an oxymoron, is revealed. The article substantiates the position on the leading role of word-formation tools in the expression of antonymic relations in the Russian language. The main types of word-forming antonyms, the ways of their formation and functioning in word-forming nests are analyzed. The conclusion is made about the need for further study of the word-formation antonymy and clarification of its boundaries in the vocabulary system of the Russian language.
