Abstract

Abstract. This study examines the semantic features of traditional phraseological units with the numerical components “one” and “two” in Kazakh and English. The aim of the research is to identify similarities and differences between phraseological units in languages of different structures and to demonstrate that numerical concepts function as productive linguistic means. They reflect the specifics of speech culture, convey national customs and traditions, everyday practices and experiences, and contribute significantly to the enrichment of the vocabulary.

The research is conducted within the framework of comparative and contrastive linguistics, phraseology, and lexicography. The article reviews the works of domestic and foreign scholars devoted to the connotative features of phraseological units with numerical components. Particular emphasis is placed on the fact that comparative analysis of such units in Kazakh and English has rarely been undertaken, which highlights the relevance of this study.

The novelty of the research lies in the systematization, classification, and refinement of phraseological units with numerical components in Kazakh and English, many of which have not previously been the subject of scholarly investigation. The results obtained broaden the understanding of the semantic organization of the phraseological system and make a contribution to the development of phraseological studies.

The practical significance of the work is reflected in the possibility of applying its findings in lectures and practical classes, the compilation of glossaries, as well as in literary studies, translation studies, the preparation of academic presentations, articles, theses, and in the development of educational programs.
