Abstract

This scientific article describes and highlights the significance of difficulties encountered by students in learning activities within the education system, insufficient development of cognitive processes, obstacles to mastering the school curriculum, and issues related to poor academic performance. It extensively examines the inadequate formation of reading, writing, calculation, text comprehension, information retention, and logical thinking skills among primary school children. In addition, the study comprehensively considers not only the child’s academic achievements but also their emotional state, self-esteem, relationships with peers and adults, and shortcomings in social adaptation.According to the results of the research, scientific studies indicate that learning difficulties are, in many cases, associated with the specific characteristics of the formation of a child’s higher mental functions and the level of maturation of brain structures.

The scientific value of this study lies in emphasizing the importance of the neuropsychological approach in investigating the characteristics of students’ mental development. Neuropsychological diagnostics enables an in-depth analysis of the structure and functioning of a child’s cognitive activity, the identification of strengths and weaknesses in the development of higher mental functions, and the explanation of the causes and mechanisms underlying learning difficulties. From this perspective, determining a student’s neuropsychological level serves as an important prerequisite for scientifically planning the content of correctional and developmental work.
